Women lose 90 lbs by weight loss walking and intermittent fasting

When Jenna Buck, 63, was nearing retirement, she decided it was time to take care of herself. She has two children and five granddaughters. “I try to be healthy for my family and myself. I want to have the energy to do things with them. We go on camping trips, and I want to be able to do everything anyone else can do.”

Buck has struggled with her weight since her twenties. As a working single mom, I’ve dealt with a lot of stress. And like a lot of people, I’ve tried many different diets, but nothing keeps losing weight forever.

Her highest weight was 287 pounds, and she was determined not to reach 300 pounds. She’s now down to 195 pounds and hopes to get to 180. “I feel so much better with the extra weight loss. This is my youngest in 20 years. I still have more to lose, and I plan to continue walking every day to turn it off, but I love the new me,” she said. “I am stronger, and I can do a lot more with my grandchildren. Now I wear them!”

She said that after losing the weight, she is now:

  • sleep better
  • Has less back pain
  • You can shop for clothes in regular stores
  • Feel comfortable wearing shorts and swimwear

“Before, I never wore shorts. I wore capris—I didn’t show off my fat legs. I didn’t wear a bathing suit in public either. Now that I’ve lost 90 pounds, I feel great in my own skin,” she said. You go out and feel relaxed.”

I turned to medication for a quick start

In August 2021, Buck went to her doctor and ordered a drug for her to start the weight loss process. Buck said the medication helped her curb her hunger and increase her energy levels. I also tried a program that included vitamins, a protein shake, and a skin patch with ingredients designed to promote weight loss.

This combination helped her lose 20 pounds. “I really needed to start over,” she said. She continues to take vitamins and drink protein shakes, but she no longer takes medication or wears the patch.

Intensified her daily walk

When Buck was working, it was difficult for her to walk more than 6,000 steps a day. “I decided that when I retired, I would focus on myself because I would have all the time in the world,” she said. “I can walk all day,” she said.

She retired in January 2022 and, true to her promise, has set herself a goal of 10,000 steps a day. She lives near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, so she gets up early and as soon as the light is enough to see the beach, she goes out for a walk. “My kids laugh at me. They say, ‘My mom won’t quit until she takes her steps.’ But I can walk for hours on the beach,” she said.

By August, she realized she was taking more than 15,000 steps a day, so she set that as her new goal. “Everything after that is a bonus. Some days I walk 30,000 steps,” she said.

Besides walking, at Planet Fitness she lifts weights twice a week for about an hour and a half, strengthening her tummy, tummy, arms, and legs. And in the fall and winter, it sinks two nights a week.

Cares about what you eat (sort of)

Buck is quick to admit that she doesn’t eat a healthy diet. I’m not a vegetable or fruit eater. I’m a pizza, a hamburger, I eat a sandwich. All my life, I’ve been told I have to eat healthy. I always thought I’d never lose weight because I’d have to eat salads, but you can Lose weight without eating salads all day,” she said.

Here’s how she manages her diet:

  • Don’t keep sweets or junk food in her house: “This way, I am not attracted to any of those things. This was my problem before.”
  • Tracks her food and exercise She aims to stay within her calorie limit, which is about 1,500 calories on most days. “Sometimes I go a little, sometimes I have less. It depends on what I’m doing that day and whether I have time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I try to eat all three, but sometimes when I’m out and about, I don’t get a chance.”
  • You fast 13 hours every night It keeps track of when her fast begins and ends to help her avoid strife in the evening. Once she records that her fast has begun, she is obligated.
  • She makes sure of it drink a lot of water. She drinks 101 ounces of water per day, which is half her body weight in ounces.

Communicate with others who are on the same journey

Buck joined Start a TODAY Facebook group In April 2022, she said, “I love talking to people and commenting on what they’ve done.” One day I posted a video of the ocean, and it got so many positive responses that I post daily now. “They can see what I see, hear the waves and sometimes even see the sunrise,” she said.

You love how the group is positive and supportive. “Some people get a mile. It’s great that they’re moving — that’s the main thing,” she said. She appreciates that everyone takes their own path to weight loss and better health: “What works for one person doesn’t always work for another. But losing weight makes you feel so much better.”
