The grand opening of Fi India and ProPak India took place on September 21 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Center (BIEC), Bengaluru, Karnataka. The exhibition provided a unique opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss food ingredients, the packaging ecosystem and emerging trends in these sectors.
The fairs saw participation from 250 leading companies, over 1,000 brands with over 7,000 visitors from across the industry, reaffirming the need and focus of the fairs to enhance and facilitate the food, healthy ingredients and packaging sectors.
Touching on the opportunities in this sector, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets in India said, “The Indian food industry is poised for explosive growth, currently growing at a compound annual growth rate of 11%, with a projected production of US$535 billion by 2025. Highlighting the importance of packaging, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rajagopalan, President of India Corporation of Manufacturers of Flexible Packaging and Collapsible Carton (IFCA), said, “We as an association operate largely in North India and in Mumbai, and it has been a great experience for us to go south. IFCA is A non-profit organization that is more than 5 decades old when there was no regulated packaging industry. Our endeavor is to give a voice to the end user industry especially in areas like food packaging. We represent approximately 82% of the referrals people in India by value.”
Alessandro Liberatore, Commissioner for Trade, Italian Trade Agency, said: “As a government agency, one of our responsibilities is to support business abroad, and packaging is an integral part of every industry whether it is essential to well-being. The pandemic has also highlighted the importance of packaging and its consequences for health and hygiene. The Italian industry will deliver more than 8.2 billion USD in packaging in 2021, with a high propensity to export. Also, more than 50% of all packaging machines in the world are either Italian or German. Hence, our trade committee in partnership with the Packaging Consortium organized a booth An Italian specialty with the eight best packaging manufacturers in Italy.”
