Many believe that the more you exercise, the faster you will lose weight. It’s the biggest misconception you could ever have. Yes, there is no doubt that exercise helps in weight loss, but it alone does not help in weight loss.

Proper physical exercise should be supplemented with a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and also rest. It doesn’t make sense to spend an hour a day in the gym and then have a glass of Coke soon after. A cup of cola contains about 10 tablespoons of sugar. Sugar is a major component that leads to weight gain. By doing this and other similar errors, you may be causing more harm than repair.

Your weight loss journey includes the right amount of exercise, eating the right amount of food and healthy habits. They all work together to help the body shed excess weight.

For weight loss, there are a few things you absolutely should not like:

  • Do not overburden your body with excessive exercise. There are limits your body can handle the stress of exercise.
  • Don’t starve yourself. Distressed diets are a big number. Remember that hunger will rob your body of natural energy and even the minimum energy your body needs.
  • Taking weight loss supplements or medications is the worst thing you can do to lose weight. The more natural the methods, the better.

Diet plays an important role in your weight loss journey. It is important that you focus on it more than the exercise.

Here’s something you should keep in mind:

If you have signed up for a gym, ask your gym trainer to provide you with a proper weight loss plan. Maintain a diet chart.

Find healthy alternatives for your cravings for unhealthy food. For example, if you like eating fried foods, switch it over to eating baked foods. Instead of eating regular potato chips, eat baked potatoes.

Cut out all the sweets and stock your snack cabinet with healthy options like Fox Nuts (mkhna).

Include greens and lentils in your diet and reduce your consumption of bread (white flour/corn flour), wheat bread (chapatti) and rice. I only had one chapati and had a plate full of vegetables and salads.

Trick your mind. Eat from a small plate rather than a large plate. This way the food will appear to make you think you ate a plate full of food.

Eat home-cooked meals instead of eating out. It is almost impossible to cut out food from the outside completely, however, rejecting it whenever you get the chance will reduce the amount of unhealthy food you eat outside. Studies have shown that if you eat home-cooked meals 5-6 days a week, you are more likely to live a long, healthy life.

Don’t mess with your breakfast routine. Experts say that eating breakfast daily and then eating the rest of the meals in small portions can greatly help in weight loss. Eating breakfast in the morning boosts the metabolism which helps in weight loss.

Eat more fruit. They are rich in nutrients and low in calories. Eating large amounts of fruit can also help in losing weight while also maintaining normal health and body strength.

We have many exercise options available to us whether it is sports, yoga, aerobics, Zumba, etc., but they are all useless if your diet is wrong. If you are looking to lose weight, keep the things mentioned here in mind and get a good mix of exercise and diet, for a good weight loss regimen.
