How not to let Diwali ruin your weight loss plans?

Are you already drooling over mouthwatering delights like laddos, savory things like samosas, kachoris and fried pre-Diwali snacks? Well, Dr. Gupta thinks there are a few things you can keep in mind to make sure the upcoming festivities don’t get you off the weight loss bandwagon.

1. Don’t stress!

β€œIt becomes very difficult to get our hands off these food items or even check our portion size, so we usually end up overeating and feeling guilty afterward,” says Dr. Gupta. So, the best thing you can do is not to stress it out.

Accept the fact that you can’t stick to a strict diet during the holidays and should stay a little off the grid with regards to your diet. The expert advises not to be too hard on yourself or feel guilty if you have an extra piece of candy.

2. Balance

Do not spend! While it is easy to overindulge in sweets and other delights during festivities, it is essential to be mindful of how much you eat. Dr. Gupta suggests taking a realistic approach to balancing completely restricting yourself and eating a lot. The answer lies in eating small portions at frequent intervals. “Even if you visit a lot of people during this time and are expected to eat with them, be sure to check your portion size,” he adds.

3. Eat healthy

When following a healthy diet, it is essential to include nutritious foods in your diet. “Try to include fiber in the form of fruits, salads, oats, etc., especially at breakfast, to maintain that balance that might be upset by eating a lot of traditional fried or sweet foods later in the day,” adds the expert.

4. Don’t forget to exercise

Universally known as the best way to keep your weight under control, the combination of a healthy diet and exercise can never go wrong. According to the expert, people are encouraged to know that it is important to exercise to keep your weight under control. “It’s not important that you go to the gym every day, but at least have a 30-minute walk or some form of light exercise into your day,” says Dr. Gupta.

In short: How do you stick to your weight loss goals during the holiday season?

Indulging in something other than your daily healthy food isn’t a bad thing as long as you have a healthy mindset to get back on track. The key is to stick to a healthy diet and exercise during the festivities, and not wait for the party to end and then go to the gym. There is no doubt that it can be a bit challenging, but the key is to remember that eating during festivals can be a lot of fun and guilt-free if done in a balanced way!
