This is why it is not surprising that there is a diet based on blood type, which suggests that people with blood type O should focus on eating different foods than, say, people with type A or B. What do we eat on a blood type diet?
The Blood Type Diet originally comes from a 1996 bookby naturopathic doctor Dr. Peter D’Adamo, and has been working on various health forums for nearly three decades.
The general motivation of the diet is that there are foods that are ideal for people of different blood types O, A, B and AB. Part of the claim hinges on the idea that blood types serve as maps to our ancestors’ history and genetics, and that the foods our ancestors commonly ate fit our bodies better, even in modern times.
Below is a snapshot of the four main blood types and what D’Adamo assumes is the best diet type for each.

D’Adamo stresses that type AB also has lower levels of stomach acid and therefore caffeine and alcohol should be avoided.
type O: Also known as “the fisherman,” D’Adamo claims that people with this blood type should eat a diet rich in protein and rich in red meat, fish, poultry, and some fruits and vegetables. This paleo diet warns Type Os not to eat grains, legumes, and dairy products.
What do experts say about the blood type diet?
So far, there is little evidence that adhering to the recommendations of a strict blood type-based diet will improve health outcomes. “The blood type diet has been debunked many times by new and improved research,” says Rios. “People who claim to be starting to feel better on this diet usually do so because they start to cook at home more and eat more whole foods and less processed foods that can improve anyone’s health.”

Is the blood type diet safe?

While trying a nutrition plan specific for your blood type shouldn’t have any serious negative consequences (at least not for those without underlying health conditions), there is also very little evidence that doing so will improve your health in any way.
